Volos is a city that combines its name with the well-known ' tsipouradika ', in a history of tastes, which has its roots in the early 20th century, when, around 1922, refugees from Asia Minor brought from their homelands imaginative culinary habits. Thus, through time, the culture of the local drink, tsipouro, and its accompanying appetizers was cultivated and today it is part of the living tradition of the city.
Originally, the drink was served with the Mostra, which is a special type of glass bottle, which regulates a slow, controlled flow, when serving.According to the tradition, all people eating at the same table had to drink tsipouro in rounds, with the waiter filling their glasses in succession from the same bottle-Mostra. Nowadays, there are still tsipouradika that maintain this traditional way of serving, though most now serve tsipouro in small bottles of one portion each, the so-called eikospentarakia (from their 25 dramia=80 gr inhalt)
In all cases, tsipouro is accompanied by 2-3 small dishes of delicacies the content of which is a surprise. With each order, the appetizers change, become more rich and elaborate, giving patrons the opportunity to make a delicious journey into the world of seafood, pickles and salted fish. Tsipouradika, constitute a genuine Greek habit and are another form of real Greek recreation that can easily be enjoyed by the whole family.
